MAHIA JERMAINE DEAN HAS BEEN WORKING AND TRAINING IN THE ART OF DIGITAL IMAGE CONSTRUCTION FOR THE LAST FEW YEARS SINCE GRADUATING HIGH SCHOOL. THIS INCLUDES PHOTOGRAPHY, DESIGN, DIGITAL COMPOSTING AND AFFECTS.

WE’VE BEEN FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO COLLABORATE ON PROJECTS THAT INCLUDES THE CREATION OF SOME OF THE FUN AND PLAYFUL IMAGERY FAFSWAG IS KNOWN FOR. HIS SLICK AND PROFESSIONAL STYLE MAKES WORKING WITH JERMAINE AN EXERCISE IN COOL.

RAUKAWA

Originally from Te Aroha, Mahia Jermaine Dean is now based in Auckland where he is currently attending the Raffles College of Commerce and Design, completing a diploma in photography and design specialising in post-production and image manipulation.

As a young openly gay Maori man – Dean’s emerging practice examines the duality of his sexual identity.  Dean’s work is influenced heavily by social dislocation and shows many of his photo subjects in hyper-real and fantasy like environments.

Mahia-Two_images-01JERMAINE’S WORK FEATURED IN THE GROUP EXHIBITION ‘NO FRUITS WITHOUT LABOUR’ CURATED BY FAFSWAG FOR THE 2014 AUCKLAND PRIDE FESTIVAL. FAFSWAG IS CURRENTLY WORKING WITH JERMAINE TO PRODUCE IS HIS FIRST SOLO EXHIBITION WHICH WILL ROLL OUT EARLY NEXT YEAR. WATCH THIS SPACE.
